This spring, I recognized that the Gaza war had turned the country’s campuses into tinderboxes. So, I pitched the story to my editor days before the situation escalated, allowing me to be positioned in Columbia University’s encampment to break the story when police began arresting protesters. I followed the story around the clock for the remainder of the semester, interviewing students and politicians on both sides of the issue to ensure I presented a balanced narrative.
